Measure the whole workflow

Include checking, corrections and handoffs when assessing improvement.

skillsnest.aus October 10, 2026

A faster first draft does not automatically mean a better process. If review takes longer, information is missing or exceptions increase, the improvement may disappear elsewhere in the workflow.

Begin with a baseline that people can explain: time spent, turnaround, output quality and the frequency of rework. Choose measures suited to the task rather than collecting every available number. Agree how samples will be compared and who will judge whether the result is usable.

During a trial, record review and correction effort alongside production time. Ask users what became easier and what became harder. Use the findings to refine the workflow, training and controls. The aim is sustained capacity and reliable service, with evidence that supports the next decision.
